Hello,

Please be aware that there was an attempted Burglary on Poplar Drive in Penwortham in the early hours of Saturday 28th June at approximately 0320 hours. Fortunately, the Offender was disturbed so no entry was gained.

Here's some advice to secure your home:

External Security:

  • Fences and Gates: Use secure, high fences and gates, and keep them locked.
  • Lighting: Install motion-sensor lights to deter night-time intruders.
  • Garden: Keep garden tools and furniture secured to prevent them from being used to gain access.
  • Driveways: Consider gravel driveways as they make it harder for burglars to approach silently.
  • Bins: Store wheelie bins behind locked gates.
  • Doors and Windows:

  • Locks: Use British Standard approved locks, and double-lock UPVC doors.
  • Windows: Ensure windows are secure with good locks and consider security bars/grilles for vulnerable ones.
  • Visibility: Install a door viewer and chain to identify visitors before opening the door.
  • Letterboxes: Avoid leaving keys near the letterbox.
  • General Security:

  • Alarm System: Install and use a visible burglar alarm.
  • CCTV: Consider installing CCTV as a deterrent and for evidence if needed.
  • Valuables: Keep valuables out of sight from windows and easily accessible locations.
  • Occupied Look: Use timers to control lights and radios to make your home appear occupied when you're out.
  • Neighbours: Notify neighbours if you'll be away for a while.
  • Distraction Burglary: Be cautious of unexpected visitors, especially if they try to distract you.
  • Renters: Report any security issues to your landlord.
  • If you see anything Suspicious please report this on 101 or in an emergency on 999.

    Thanks,
